Pricing changes dimensional weight packages

August 1, 2017 - 16:09

After freight rate increases in September, UPS has again announced changes. This time for dimensional weight packages and additional handling charges.

The global transportation company announced the freight rate increase last week on its website. Effective January eight 2017, for all United States domestic service packages larger than 1,728 cubic inches a 139 divisor will be used to calculate the dimensional weight of the goods. For shipments of packages on U.S. less than or equal to 1,728 cubic inches, the 166 divisor will stay in place. Furthermore, United Parcel Service stated that standard from Canada import shipments will use a 139 divisor.

The change of the dimensional weight calculation puts the company next to competitor FedEx, whom also set to increase the dimensional weight pricing with a 139 divisor as of January the 2nd 2017.

Fuel Surcharge changes

More chances were notable on the corporate website of the transportation giant. Effective February 6, 2017, U.S. fuel surcharge will be adjusted weekly. Also U.S. Import fuel surcharge percentage will increase and be assessed independently of U.S. Air and Export fuel surcharge.

Moreover, as of the second week of January, additional handling charges will be assessed for any package larger than 48 inches, currently a limit of 60 inches is applied. Tthe additional handling surcharge will also be applicable to UPS SurePost packages.

Based on the data provided by the parcel carrier we rate the shipments against the rates and contracts and the received order data if available. The result will be sent to the carrier either by the customer or ControlPay in order to give the carrier an opportunity to explain his calculation. After that analysis a credit note will be requested from the carrier and further processed. ControlPay can also be requested to handle the recovery directly from the carriers.
